Five Tunes to Get You on Your Feet

There’s something about hearing a good tune and feeling your feet want to move.

Over five weeks, you’ll dance to five Acadian tunes and spend time with the steps, rhythms, and patterns that make this tradition so lively.

The lessons break the dancing down into manageable pieces so you can watch, try it yourself, repeat anything you need, and gradually get the movement feeling more natural.

Whether you’re adding new steps to what you already dance or getting more comfortable with Acadian step dancing, you’ll have something new and fun to work on every week.

Five tunes. More time dancing. And plenty of steps to bring to the next kitchen party.

The weekly schedule gives you a little momentum, but you’ll have access until November 30 so there’s plenty of time to repeat steps, revisit lessons, and let everything settle into your feet.

Your registration includes both Beginner and Intermediate lessons, so you can choose the level that feels right for where you are now.

A place to get comfortable with Acadian step dancing, work through the movements clearly, and build a solid foundation while dancing along with the tunes.

👞 Intermediate

More steps and techniques for dancers who already have some experience and are ready for something new to dig into.

Both levels are included with your registration. Choose the one that fits you and enjoy the other lessons too if you want to explore them.

Learn With Megan Arsenault (Bergeron) & Helen Bergeron

Two generations of experienced Acadian dancers sharing the rhythms, patterns, and instincts they’ve developed through years of dancing and teaching.

Megan Arsenault (Bergeron)

Megan grew up surrounded by traditional Acadian music and dance on Prince Edward Island, where kitchen parties, music, and dancing were a natural part of life from an early age.

A multi-instrumentalist and step dancer, she is a member of the internationally acclaimed Acadian group Vishtèn and has spent years performing and sharing Acadian traditional music and dance at home and around the world.

Megan brings that same energy to her teaching, breaking the dancing down into approachable pieces while keeping the rhythm, character, and fun that make Acadian step dancing come alive.

Helen Bergeron

Helen is considered by her peers to be one of Canada’s finest step dancers. Her career has taken her across Canada, the United States, Europe, and Japan as a dancer, musician, and performer.

The daughter of renowned Island fiddler Eddy Arsenault, Helen grew up step dancing and making music within PEI'’s Acadian tradition. She was a founding member of the Acadian group Barachois and co-founder of Gadelle.

Helen brings a lifetime of traditional dancing to the course, sharing steps and movement rooted in the music, kitchen parties, and community gatherings she grew up with.

Acadian step dancing has been learned the same way for generations.

You watch somebody dance. You pick up a step. You try it yourself. Before long, those movements become part of the way you dance too.

And then somebody else sees you.

That’s how a living tradition keeps moving.

The Trad Academy is our way of sharing the music and dance we grew up with and helping more people make it part of their own lives.
